HydrateMe — Privacy Policy

This policy covers the HydrateMe app on both the Apple App Store (iOS, iPadOS and Apple Watch) and Google Play (Android and Wear OS). It explains what happens to your information.

The short version

Your hydration data — your profile, drink logs and reminders — stays on your device and in your own Apple or Google accounts. We don’t run a server for it and can’t see it. There is no account to create. The only data that leaves the app is what’s needed to (1) show ads in the free version and (2) measure our own advertising, described below. Your health and location data are never used for advertising.

Data stays on your device

Your profile (sex, age, height, weight, activity), your drink logs, container presets, reminders, and settings are stored on your device.

• On iOS: if you use iCloud, this data is synced privately to your own Apple iCloud account via Apple’s CloudKit, and to your Apple Watch.
• On Android: it may be included in your device’s own Android backup to your Google account, if you have backup turned on, and is synced to a paired Wear OS watch.

We cannot see, access, or collect any of it.

Apple Health and Health Connect

• On iOS: if you allow it, HydrateMe reads and writes water intake (dietaryWater) in Apple Health, and can read recent sleep to suggest reminder hours.
• On Android: if you allow it, HydrateMe reads and writes hydration records in Health Connect.

This data stays on your device under your control, is never sent to us or to any advertising or analytics provider, and you can revoke access at any time in the Health app / iOS Settings or in Health Connect. HydrateMe works fully without it.

Location & weather

If you turn on the automatic hot-weather boost, HydrateMe uses your approximate location to fetch the local temperature — via Apple’s WeatherKit on iOS, and via the OpenWeather service on Android — so it can add extra water to your goal on hot days. Your location is used only for that check: we do not store it, and it is never used for advertising.

Advertising

The free version of HydrateMe shows ads. Ads are supplied through Unity LevelPlay, which is a mediator: it passes each ad request to whichever advertising network bids highest. The networks that may fill a request are ironSource Ads and Unity Ads (both operated by Unity) and Google AdMob.

To serve and measure an ad, those companies may collect and process:

• a device advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android) and other device identifiers
• approximate location inferred from your IP address
• ad interactions — which ads were shown and whether you tapped them
• device and diagnostic information such as model, OS version, and crash data

They may use this for personalised advertising where you have allowed it. This processing is theirs, under their own policies — Unity (LevelPlay, ironSource Ads, Unity Ads) and Google (AdMob); see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services.

• Consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland): on first launch we show a consent request via Google’s User Messaging Platform, and every ad network above receives your choice. You can consent, refuse, or manage individual purposes. If you refuse, you’ll still see ads, but non-personalised ones. You can change your choice later from the privacy options in the app’s Settings.
• On iOS: tracking additionally requires your permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, no network receives your IDFA and ads are non-personalised. You can change it later in iOS Settings.
• The one-time “Remove Ads” purchase stops all ad requests.

Measuring our own advertising (iOS)

We advertise HydrateMe on Meta (Facebook, Instagram) and Google. To tell which of our adverts led to an install, the iOS app includes the Meta SDK (app events only — there is no Facebook login or sharing) and Google Analytics for Firebase. They record:

• that the app was installed and opened, and when
• app sessions, and whether the “Remove Ads” purchase was made (recorded automatically by the SDKs)
• device type, OS version, app version, approximate country, and an app-instance identifier — plus the advertising identifier only if you allow tracking

We see these only as aggregated reports, used to measure and optimise our own campaigns. They never include your hydration, health or location data, are not used to identify you, and are never sold. This processing is governed by Meta’s Privacy Policy, Firebase’s privacy terms and Google’s Privacy Policy. Declining tracking, or resetting your advertising identifier, disconnects it from your device’s advertising identity. The Android app does not include these SDKs.

Apple and Google also provide us with aggregate, non-identifying store statistics.

Purchases

The one-time “Remove Ads” purchase is processed by the platform store — Apple on iOS and Google Play Billing on Android. We never receive your payment details; the app only stores a local flag that ads are removed.

Children

HydrateMe is a general-audience wellness utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Not medical advice

HydrateMe offers general wellness guidance, not medical advice. Consult your doctor about fluid intake if you have kidney, heart, or other conditions.

Your choices

• Control Health / Health Connect, Location, Notifications, and (on iOS) Tracking permissions in your device settings.
• Refuse or change ad consent at the prompt, or later from the privacy options in the app’s Settings.
• Remove all ads, and the ad networks’ data collection, with a one-time purchase.
• Reset your advertising identifier in your device settings.

Data deletion

We hold none of your hydration data ourselves. Deleting the app removes its on-device data; iCloud copies can be removed from your Apple account, and Android backups from your Google account. Analytics data (iOS) is kept by Google and Meta for a limited period and then deleted automatically; to ask us to delete analytics data linked to your app installation sooner, email us.

If this policy changes we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
